G.A.D.A. Single Release

G.A.D.A. NOW OUT

There’s groundswell of privileged people WITHOUT obstacles simply because of their race, religion, disability, gender or gender identify, giving a damn and have got the backs of those who have been cruelly excluded and rejected by social injustices.

Decades ago, the people we saw protesting were predominantly the very people who were crying out for a better life and to be recognised as equal in their humanity.  Now we see privileged people who once stood silently watching, nailing their colours to the mast and standing with those who have been for so long holding the placards by themselves.

Who are we as as Australians goes to the core of our being. Not just through our own achievements and aspirations of enjoying the abundent fortunes and opportunities that this magnificent country offers, but how we share those fortunes by stepping aside and letting someone else through, especialy those who have stood at that barricade for so long.

We are finding out just who we are.  Let’s give a damn Australia.

Named after the first governor of South Australia, The Gov has seen a lot of changes over the past 162 years.

Since 1993, when the Tonkin family took over, The Gov has established itself as Adelaide’s leading live music venue and is highly regarded by musicians and music-lovers alike.

Between the regular local bands playing in the front bar and the world-class musicians featured in the Venue, The Gov really is Adelaide’s home of live, original music.

The Gov’s Front Bar and Saloon Bar provide a friendly environment for activities like the Adelaide Ukulele Appreciation Society meetings on Tuesdays, Open Mic Sessions on Wednesdays, Irish Jam Sessions on Fridays and live local bands on Thursdays and Saturdays.

The warm décor, polished wooden surfaces and fireplaces throughout make it a comfortable and welcoming place to be, especially in winter. In the Venue, pictures of famous musicians adorn the walls and the dimmed lighting booths around the room emphasises the intimate space, creating the perfect environment in which to see a favourite band.

Best Entertainment Venue in Australia

At the 2009 and 2012 Australian Hotels Association’s national Awards for Excellence, The Gov was awarded the title of ‘Best Entertainment Venue in Australia’. The Gov has also won the AHA Award for Excellence as the ‘Best Entertainment Venue in South Australia’ for the last six years, a streak which started in 2007. We were also inducted into the SA AHA Hall of Fame in 2011 as the ‘Best Entertainment Venue’.

Regarded amongst musicians as the key home of live music in Adelaide, The Gov benefits from the continued support of many artists who come back year after year, at times to play multiple nights in one visit.

Lyrics: Susan Craig

Music: Mark Simpkin & Ian (NED) Kelly

So . . . you’re travelling down a dusty red road with that big blue sky on your bonnet.  The red dirt turns to gravel, the gravel turns to bitumen and you’re stopped by your first set of traffic lights. Daaammm!

You gaze down at your beloved boots, that have brought back mementos of where you’ve been.  Then turn to your rear view mirror for that final glimpse of  those images you can’t put into words.    If you’re feeling the tug and the collision as you look back at that vision; then chances are you’ve got the Spinifex Blues.
