BESTIE for a BESTIE RSPCA Government House

MOSS Band 19th February – Government House – RSPCA

On Friday, February 19th 2016, RSPCA South Australia is hosting a fun evening with a twist within the grounds of Government House.

The twist is this: South Australian wine-making legends will be hosting tables, where guests will enjoy back-vintage and museum-release fine wines donated by some of South Australia’s best wineries.

Table hosts and supporting wineries include Henschke, Charles Melton, Hentley Farm, Teusner, Samuels Gorge, Gomersal, Kaesler, Hobbs, Maxwell, Mr Riggs, Paxton, Tim Smith, Flaxman, DogRidge and many others.

Their roadmap will be a gourmet menu from Hill of Grace Restaurant Executive Manager and Chef, Dennis Leslie.

Add music, entertainment, and the magnificent surrounds of the Government House grounds, and we promise it will be an evening to remember.

The cause

RSPCA South Australia’s Safe Kennels program provides emergency accommodation for the pets of domestic violence victims, to keep them safe while their owners get the help they need.

Sadly, many people living with domestic violence will not leave that abusive environment if their pets have to remain behind, for fear they will be harmed. South Australia’s domestic violence support agencies do not provide accommodation for pets, so they refer these requests to RSPCA South Australia.

Currently, RSPCA South Australia are receiving more requests to assist people in crisis than we can cope with, so we are expanding our program to meet this need, including building additional kennel space and developing a specific foster care program to assist in housing these animals.

As the average length of emergency stay is two months, this is an expensive support program for RSPCA South Australia to provide (which invariably includes the cost of veterinary care) but it is a very important service that needs the community’s assistance with funding.

The event

Dress Code: Cocktail

Tickets are $540 p.p. + Eventbrite fees of $18.75

For event enquiries please contact Josie at RSPCA South Australia on (08) 8205 8053. For event updates and more information visit the Bestie for a Bestie Event on the RSPCA South Australia Facebook Page.

COAST FM AUSTRALIA DAY IN THE PARK

MOSS Band 24 January – Australia Day in the park

In response to the establishment of FM community radio stations around Australia, a group of councillors from the South Western regions of Adelaide approached the Kingston College of TAFE – now known as the Onkaparinga Institute of TAFE – in 1985, regarding the establishment of a comunity radio station on campus. A steering committee was formed in 1986.

Southern and Western Broadcasters registered an expression of interest with the Australian Broadcasting Tribunal and the first transmission operating as SKY-FM was held over four days in June 1986 from a caravan adjacent to the transmission tower at the rear of the college.

Glandore studios
Following the success of the first trial broadcast with borrowed equipment, the Australian Broadcasting Commission made a redundant stereo radio desk available with grants and donations facilitating the purchase of studio equipment.

A TAFE-funded course allowed the construction of studios in a demountable classroom.

SKY TALK programmes were broadcast on Radio 5UV from August 1987 and then transferred to 5EBI in July 1989.

In March 1991 an application by the station, now known as Coast FM, resulted in a “C” class licence being issued and, on June 28th 1992, full-time broadcasts began on 88.5MHz. in 2002 the frequency was changed to 88.7MHz.

On the 13th of December 1998, from our humble beginnings at O’Halloran Hill we moved to the Naldera building at the Glandore Community Centre. The Centre is heritage-listed, with a colourful history of it’s own dating back to the 1890s.

Programming

Coast FM is licensed to serve the Southern and South-Western community in the Adelaide metropolitan area. The station operates 24 hours per day, with live presenters providing personal contact with listeners. From 6.00am to 6.00pm the Committee of Management dictates the type of programming, such as news, sport, music and special reports.

Adelaide’s Coast FM’s programming has a very heavy bias towards popular rock and pop music from the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s, which suits the main audience who are 39 years plus. Coast FM also features country music, every day from 2pm to 4pm.

From 6pm each evening, Coast FM offers traditional community radio fare: sport, religion, foreign language and speciality music programmes, including jazz, soul, musicals, alternative, dance, rock-a-billy, contemporary pop and music featuring local artists and bands.

During the day you can also catch folk and more sport: John O’Neil’s racing preview and Australia’s longest running soccer radio programme.
